Christiana Care is seeking a Geriatric Psychiatrist to provide high quality psychiatric care to Christiana Care Health Services patients and to educate, advise, and support clinical staff, students and house staff in the understanding and management of psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, acute stress response, and bereavement and loss in the geriatric population.

The ideal candidate:
Collaborates in the evaluation and treatment of patients referred to the CCHS Memory Care Center.
Provides both inpatient and outpatient consultative services to geriatric patients.
Collaborates with the CCHS Geriatric Medicine Program and A.C.E. units at Christiana and Wilmington hospitals.
Responds to all consultation requests in a timely manner based on the urgency of the clinical situation.
All non-emergent requests should be seen as rapidly as possible, but in all cases the consultation must be completed within the time limits established by the CCHS Medical Staff.
Maintains appropriate and timely clinical documentation and billing data. Assists staff in resource management third party reviews and discharge planning
Educates, advises, and supports the attending physicians, house staff, nurses and other professionals in treatment of psychiatric disorders in the elderly.
Assists patients, their families and the staff in the appropriate responses to acute stress including bereavement and loss
Supervises and instructs medical students and house staff in the field of stress of late life geriatric psychiatry
Develops and presents educational programs and/or lectures on psychiatric topics to both professional and lay audiences
Participates in clinical research
Assists other members of the Department when required, including availability for regularly scheduled on-call responsibilities
Maintains effective communication with physicians, staff, patients and families
Serves on Departmental and Christiana Care committees as appropriate
Assists the Department’s leadership in the development of new program and initiatives
Demonstrates a consistently high level of professionalism in personal conduct and support of the Mission, Vision and Values of Christiana Care Health Services
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

Performs other related duties as required.

Seventy percent (70%) of worked hours will be involved with direct patient care

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
M.D./D.O. from accredited medical school

•Identifies new programs and services to be offered at the facilities, act as a liaison with other hospital departments on program development activities, conduct feasibility studies, complete business plans and marketing programs.
