The office of Inclusion and Diversity focuses on our employees (whom we refer to as caregivers) and we know when we support our caregivers and they can be their authentic selves, they bring their best and give their best to the people we care for and the people we serve.
Every caregiver across ChristianaCare brings distinct insights based on their combination of gender, gender identity, age, culture, ethnicity, religious beliefs, personality, world experiences, upbringing, abilities and more.
At ChristianaCare, we believe those differences are a powerful asset, because they reflect the diverse nature of our globally diverse staff, patients and the communities we serve. Maintaining a diverse workforce ensures that our caregivers can communicate effectively with visitors, patients, family members and each other.
The office of Inclusion and Diversity firmly believes patient- and family-centered care, organizational excellence and the caregiver experience are enhanced by our diverse workforce where everyone is empowered to make a difference.

As a disability-friendly organization, ChristianaCare is committed to creating a work environment that is inclusive and accessible to all caregivers, including those with disabilities. We recognize that individuals with disabilities may require accommodations to perform their duties and to fully engage in our organization. We are committed to providing such accommodations as necessary to ensure that everyone can work to the best of their abilities.
We strive to promote an environment that will allow our caregivers with disabilities to feel safe when discussing their needs and self-identifying. Additionally, we have equipped our leaders with the tools to answer your questions and facilitate these discussions in the most secure way possible.
ChristianaCare actively works towards creating a culture of belonging. We welcome and support all of our caregivers, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
We prioritize educating our organization about LGBTQ+ experiences and promoting policies to protect our caregivers from discrimination, harassment and bias. This commitment extends beyond the workplace and into our communities, where we advocate for equal rights and opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community. Learn more about our Pride celebrations.
We are committed to supporting our nation's veterans and active-duty personnel by recognizing the valuable skills and experience that they bring to the workplace. We understand that veterans may face unique challenges transitioning from military service to civilian employment, and we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive work environment where everyone is enabled to thrive.
Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) connect caregivers who have a common interest or bond with one another. ERGs are grassroots groups formed by employees across all demographics: race, national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, education, geography, military status, occupation, health care field, etc.
ERG members are volunteers who work to accomplish the goals set forth in their charter with the support of the office of Inclusion and Diversity and executive sponsor(s).
There are no membership stipulations or requirements to join any ERG. You just need to have an interest in the work. Currently, there are 11 different ERGs:

Allyship is an active, purposeful and challenging exercise of unlearning and evaluation, in which a person in a position of privilege and power seeks to work in unity with a marginalized group.
Allyship is not an identity—it is a lifelong process of building relationships based on trust, consistency and accountability with marginalized individuals and/or groups of people.
Being an ally is not a title you give yourself. Our work and our efforts must be known by the people we seek to ally ourselves with.
