ChristianaCare is currently recruiting for a full-time Access Coordinator for our Oncology and Hematology office located at Helen F. Graham, Suite 2300 in Newark, DE.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtains, verifies authorizations and tracks required pre-authorizations for oncology office visits and treatment services including high cost complexity medications prior to the patient appointment.
  • Verifies and documents patient insurance coverage and coordinates financial support with the practice director and the cancer center social worker team if required.
  • Communicates status of prior authorizations to providers and patients and reschedules as necessary.
  • Reports to providers and billing manager denied requests and follow up with the provider regarding the need for further intervention.
  • Arranges peer to peer discussions with the 3rd party providers to facilitate a review of the denied request.
  • Investigates patient out of pocket costs and available support programs, referring patient account to the Cancer Center Social Worker and/or the CCOH Billing Manager.
  • Coordinates with patient financial services to investigate and resolve billing discrepancies/denials.
  • Performs daily operational duties such as scheduling, registration, pre-registration, verification, and authorization for treatments utilizing the Varian (EMR) and Soarian systems.
  • Documents all case information in the EMR and Soarian.
  • Participates in quality assurance as directed to assure ongoing improvement in departmental and individual performance.
  • Attends department in-service and staff meetings as required.
  • Assists in training of new employees.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor in a timely manner any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, day shift

Education and Experience Requirements

Associates degree in Business/Medical related field

Two years experience in a medical, financial, or marketing field required

Direct related work experience may be substituted for educational requirements as determined by Practice Director and Cancer Center Management.
