The Claims Specialist is responsible for the insurance follow up and verification that theassigned payor has fulfilled benefits payable to ChristianaCare, Union Hospital.

Work Schedule:
Days, with attendance at special events as requested.
Potential for occasional weekend or holiday assignments/projects.

Essential Job Functions:
- Works in cooperation with the biller to ensure that the days on the hospitals accounts receivables remain below the Maryland state average.
- Provides prompt follow up with payor to determine delays in payment reimbursement on patient accounts over 60 days from date of bill.
- Contact the guarantor to advise of any delays and identifies his/her needs to assist.
- Resolves all incoming mail and telephone inquiries assigned to payor.
- Attends payor related training sessions required to gain additional knowledge
- Documents the Meditech system on the account level to record any communications with the payor or patient.
- Provides attachment of the required documents to paper bills in order for the claim to be paid without delay.
- Distributes paper claims according to payor and type of document to be attached.
- Cross trains with paper/electronic billing functions to provide coverage during
absences/vacations/vacancies etc.
- Handle refunds as necessary.

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Some college course work preferred.

Licenses / Certifications: Certified Patient Account Technician (CPAT) preferred.

Experience: Minimum six months of billing or related experience preferred.
