The Center for Medical Genomics at ChristianaCare is currently searching for a Cardiovascular/Adult Genetic Counselor to support the Heart and Vascular Center and the Adult Community to join our team of Genetic Counselors and Geneticists.

Cardiovascular genetics is a rapidly evolving subspecialty, and its growth is attributed to advances in genome sequencing and genetic testing. With the increase in the understanding of the genetic basis of multiple cardiac conditions, including arrhythmias (channelopathies), heart failure (cardiomyopathies), lipid disorders, and vascular disease, including aortopathies there have been advances in clinical diagnostic methods, as well as in therapies to ameliorate symptoms, slow progression of disease, and mitigate the risk of adverse outcomes

Adult genetics is a rapidly growing and vital service with referrals consisting of a broad spectrum of adult onset genetic conditions/syndromes.   Advances in adult genetics provide the opportunity for diagnosis, treatment and management changes for this population.  Conditions/syndromes that are seen in this clinic include but are not limited to renal disorders, connective tissue disorders, and chromosome abnormalities.

The Genetic Counselor will be responsible for conducting intake screening and risk assessment, explaining the nature and scope of testing procedures, and following up with results. In addition, the counselor will have opportunities to teach and supervise residents, fellows, undergraduate students and graduate genetic counseling students. The counselor will also provide educational lectures to professionals as well as participate in community outreach. Educational enrichment is integral to the position with participation in journal clubs, and case conference

The Center for Medical Genomics currently has 7 genetic counselors and two medical geneticists that provide care across multiple service lines, including oncology, prenatal, NICU, cardiovascular, neurology and adult genetics.
