ChristianaCare is searching for a Chief Dosimetrist to join Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and & Research Institute's Department of Radiation Oncology. In this role, you will provide clinical expertise in radiation therapy treatment planning applications and tools. In addition, the Chief Dosimetrist will manage a team who assist radiation oncologists in performing simulation patient treatment planning and dose calculation as critical components to radiation therapy treatments for cancer patients.

In this role you will:

  • Coordinate workflow and treatment planning activities in the dosimetry section.

  • Supervision of dosimetry staff.

  • Assist with the clinical training; complete evaluations and provide other assistance as needed

  • Participates and directs orientation of new staff

  • Provides performance review, evaluation of clinical practice, and management of section personnel.

  • Identifies system issues to facilitate improvements in section operations.

  • Assist department in achieving and maintaining compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements

  • Provides technical support to staff as needed

  • Performs dosimetric calculations for patients under therapy treatments using manual and computer techniques for: external stationary photon and electron beams, moving photon and electron beams, and interstitial and intracavitary implants.

  • Assists in planning of treatment by preparing custom blocks, compensation filters, immobilization devices, and merging of radiation fields.

  • Assists oncologist during simulation to acquire all information to develop the optimum treatment plan.

  • Monitors operation of radiation therapy equipment and performs minor calibrations and checks.

  • Assists physicist in major calibrations and checks.

  • Assists physicist in the preparation and care of radioactive sources and applicators for interstitial and intracavitary procedures.

  • Performs radiation survey and implements radiation protection guidelines in reference to implant procedures.

  • Assures proper implementation of treatment plan during initial patient setup for treatment.

  • Prepares weekly review and final summary of patient treatment records to verify that all entries and functions conform to the prescription ordered by the Radiation Oncologist.

  • Informs Radiation Physicist, Oncologist, and Chief Therapist of any discrepancies.

  • Selects appropriate billing codes for all physics and simulation services provided by the department to the patient.

  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

  • Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and to provide the care needed.


  • Graduate of a dosimetrist training program and or a bachelor's degree in physical, mathematical or computer science from an accredited university.

  • Minimum of two years working experience as a staff radiation therapist desired.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
