As the Quality and Compliance Coordinator you will be responsible for tracking, monitoring, reviewing, interpreting, and communicating existing, proposed, and newly enacted federal and state rules and regulations, Joint Commission (JC) accreditation standards, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Conditions of Participation, URAC accreditation standards, and ACHC accreditation standards relative to the practice of specialty pharmacy. This position will also maintain proficiency in patient care through occasional cross-coverage of clinical pharmacists.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison to pharmacy caregivers and provide broad oversight for various pharmacy accreditation standards, rules, and regulations
  • Identify and initiate improvements to ensure compliance with evolving specialty pharmacy accreditation standards, rules, and regulations
  • Identify and implement initiatives to improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of the program
  • Develop and update policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures whenever additions and changes to best practices, standards, rules, and regulations warrant. Provide timely and accurate communication as appropriate, regarding interpretation of additions, changes, and timelines for compliance.
  • Conduct audits of specialty pharmacy program documentation and patient records to ensure compliance with accreditation standards
  • Perform root cause analysis, failure mode effect analysis, and proactive risk assessments to identify and implement performance or quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate as needed with other health system departments, such as pharmacy informatics, IT, Billing, Compliance, Legal, Risk, etc.
  • Represent the Specialty Pharmacy Program on interdisciplinary and departmental committees as assigned
  • Provide individualized patient education and assessment regarding specialty drug therapy as requested or identified by patient need
  • Address medication-related questions or concerns in-between provider visits as needed.
  • Provide documentation of patient visits and follow-ups within the specialty pharmacy documentation system following URAC and ACHC accreditation standards.
  • Work collaboratively with caregivers of the program to help facilitate seamless prescription processing and appropriately address patient concerns
  • Monitor drug therapy outcomes for targeted patients within established guidelines
  • Participate in the management and documentation of adverse drug reactions.
  • Precept pharmacy residents and students, as assigned
  • Develop, maintain, and provide education and training materials for pharmacy staff related to pharmacy accreditation standards, rules, and regulations
  • Evaluate staff's understanding of standards, rules, and regulations to prepare staff for accreditation and ensure a state of continuous readiness

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy required
  • ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency required
  • At least two years of health system specialty pharmacy experience required
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) or Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) certification required or must be obtained within twoyears of hire
  • Experience in compliance and/or quality improvement preferred
  • Current licensure (or eligible to reciprocate) in the State of Delaware
  • May require pharmacist licensure in additional states to provide virtual patient care services
  • Travel to other office locations to meet department needs
