PRIMARY FUNCTION:

This position provides analytical support to ensure Medical Group success in population health, value-based programs, and ACO/CIN-type arrangements. In addition to leading a team of data developers, responsibilities include the design and development of data infrastructure to support quality, population health, and process improvement projects which align with the organization's strategies for optimal health, exceptional experience, and organizational vitality.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coach and/or mentor less experienced analytics professionals in higher level use of data analytical tools.
  • Function as a consultant to Medical Group leadership using data to support decision-making.
  • Evaluate large amounts of healthcare data to find meaningful patterns, trends, and relationships
  • Optimize data structures to improve data efficiency, consistency, and transparency across the Medical Group.
  • Develop dashboards and scorecards using advanced visualization techniques and data capabilities.
  • Identify, design, and/or recommend resources and analytical methods to support performance improvement in the Medical Group.
  • Communicate the results of data analytics clearly, consistently, and appropriately to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare projects for publication and/or presentation to both internal and external customers.
  • Facilitate an environment oriented to collaboration and problem solving.
  • Attend meetings and in-service/educational programs and other activities as requested.
  • Convey enthusiasm and strive to motivate and inspire team members.

SCOPE, PURPOSE AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Interacts regularly with management and staff from Data Warehousing, Care Management, Population Health, Health Information Management Services, and Information Services. Periodic contact with the organization's executive leadership for Quality and Care Management and Population Health, as well as internal and external customers.

DIRECTION/SUPERVSION OF OTHERS:

Responsible for supervision of technical members of the Medical Group analytics team and other staff as assigned.

DIRECTION/SUPERVSION RECEIVED

Reports directly to the Director, Medical Group Data Management

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Requires 5 years of experience in working with clinical data for analysis and visualization; experience with claims data preferred
  • Expertise with technologies such as R, SAS, SPSS, Tableau, Qlikview with ability to mentor other team members in these technologies is preferred.
  • Requires intermediate SQL skills with an emphasis on data architecture and data structure design.
  • Expertise in using electronic medical records, Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Visio)
  • Experience working in the healthcare industry required; experience working with health plans or payers or care management is preferred

  • Experience with people management is preferred

High Emotional Intelligence (EQ) to function within our rapidly evolving healthcare environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Walking to and from offices campuses sites and patient care areas, travel between systems campuses and possibly private offices accessing areas of the system required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Low to moderate risk of exposure to infectious conditions from patients and or visitors to the patient care areas. Normal office environment.
