ChristianaCare provides the region's most advanced trauma care. ChristianaCare is the only Adult Level-1 trauma center for people who live between Philadelphia and Baltimore as well as within the entire State of Delaware. We seek a Data Collection Specialist for our Trauma Program to abstract, interpret and present data for assigned database or registry with the objectives of assisting performance improvement, care management and demonstrate excellence in health and clinical outcomes.  Do you enjoy working with data?  Good with numbers?

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assesses appropriate inclusion/exclusion of data based on defined data dictionary; assists in evaluation of data dictionaries.

Attains and maintains proficiency in data abstraction and entry.

Utilizes basic understanding of ICD-10 coding in daily work routine.

Generates routine and ad hoc reports as directed within required time frame.

Maintains competency in CCS, HIS, Power Chart, Web View and other applications specific to duties (assigned registry, Word, EXCEL, Powerpoint, etc).

Organizes a work plan to achieve assigned project goals or implements an established work plan; makes suggestions to improve efficiency of work.

Evaluates and maintains clear documentation of project achievements based on established goals.

Assists in the identification of issues with data collection methods; assures methods for collection meet/exceed accreditation, regulatory, and institutional standards.

Establishes and performs quality control checks for assigned databases.

Maintains confidentiality of patient/members and staff information; compliant with HIPPA regulations.


High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy required.

Knowledge of, or experience in any of the following: computers, data abstraction, data entry, clinical experience in patient care, medical records, ICD-10 coding of injuries and procedures, Performance Improvement and physiology and disease processes.

Schedule: This is a day shift position of 32 hours per week (64 per pay).  Hours and work days may be flexible.
