Emergency Care Technicians - Per Diem

We seek an Emergency Care Technician in a Per Diem role. ChristianaCare provides superior, around-the-clock emergency and trauma services to the people of Delaware and the surrounding region. The Emergency Care Tech (ECT) will cover shifts in emergency departments at ChristianaCare's Christiana Hospital, Wilmington Hospital, the free-standing emergency department in Middletown.

  • Work in Emergency Departments with a helipad with aero-medical transport capabilities! The Emergency Department is a participating trauma hospital in the Delaware Trauma System.

The primary function is to perform hygiene/comfort measures and selected nursing and phlebotomy procedures for patients under the supervision and direction of the professional nurse.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development. The ability to obtain information to identify patient needs and to provide care as needed.

Performs assigned nursing procedures that pertain to the comfort and well-being of patients.

Responds to patient crisis situations and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.

Performs successful venipuncture and finger sticks on adult patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.

Performs defined procedures on point of care instrumentation.

Responds with promptness, empathy and interest to needs of patients.

Communicates to patients, employees, and physicians utilizing courteous verbal and written communication skills.

Completes mandatory in-service education.

Performs essential unit specific tasks under the direction of RN, e.g. EKGs, height and weight measurement.

Handles communication in the various areas of the Emergency Department using CCHS telephone etiquette policy.

Receives records and relays messages promptly and courteously.

Facilitates patient and visitor flow.

Receives and disperses inter- and intra-departmental communications.

Directs physicians to appropriate nursing personnel for physician orders.

Demonstrates knowledge of facility regulations regarding visitors and confidentiality status.

Assists in precepting of new Emergency Department employees if needed.

Actively participates on ED workgroups, Unit Practice committees or councils if needed.

Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.

Requirements:

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous work experience or completion of Patient Care Technician and/or Phlebotomist programs.
  • Strongly preferred candidates will have ED experience.

Other:  Selected candidates will choose from available 4, 8, and 12 hour shifts. Pay Rates are based upon per month hour commitments of 36, 60 and 84 hours per month.
