Christiana Care is looking for a full-time Emergency Management Planner to develop policies, plans and procedures to support the ChristianaCare emergency management program.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Develops emergency management related policies, procedures, and plans by collaborating with key stakeholders. Reviews and updates policies, procedures and plans as assigned. Works with departments to update and refine Departmental Emergency Management Plans.
  • Participates in the planning, development, and execution of emergency management exercises.
  • Responds to the Hospital Command Center to support emergency operations during actual events.
  • Develops, maintains, updates, and presents resource/education materials associated with emergency management plans as assigned.
  • Contributes information to the Emergency Management Intranet and Collaboration Sites on the CCHS portal.
  • Conducts follow up on after action report findings as assigned. Meets with department leadership to develop action plans that address after action report findings.
  • Periodically inspects and inventories emergency management equipment and supplies. Makes recommendations regarding the replenishment of supplies.
  • Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary Emergency Management Committee and may be assigned to lead workgroups or teams as needed.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
  • Collaborates with IT on any systems or software implementations with direct impact to Emergency Management
  • Contributes to the management of emergency preparedness funding through Federal and State grants. This includes preparation of workplans and budgets to meet grant objectives.

Hours: Day Shift

Education and experience requirements:

  • BS degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Administration, or related field.
  • Five years' experience in emergency management preferably in a healthcare setting. Preferred experience will include emphasis in development of emergency management programs and exercises and conducting training/education

Special Requirements:

Acceptable drivers record in good standing.

Requires 24-hour hospital-wide response and preparedness for the management of major emergencies and disaster situations. As part of the Incident Management Team, this position will be expected to respond during off hours for emergencies.

Completed Certification for the following Incident Management classes: IS-700A, IS-100a, IS-200a, ICS300, ICS400, IS-800b. If this is not completed prior to employment, it must be completed within the first 90 days employment.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:

Knowledge of emergency management principles and practices.

Knowledge of applicable Joint Commission standards.

Working Knowledge of WebEOC, Everbridge, and other comparable Emergency Management software

Knowledge of personnel and participatory management philosophy, procedures, and practices.

Knowledge of principles and techniques that elicit teamwork throughout the organization.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Ability to technically resolve problems and develop effective solutions with other staff consultants.

Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy.

Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate program operations.

Ability to interact with employees, management personnel, physicians, and visitors.

Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations.
