ChristianaCare is looking for a full-time Maintenance Supervisor in Elkton, Maryland to assign and coordinate the day-to-day work in the Maintenance Department, review the quality of work, supervise productivity and complete maintenance tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides general direction to assigned personnel on a variety of work assignments. Communicates goals and objectives with staff through daily contact and shop meetings to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Review's maintenance work order requests and schedules work orders for assigned personnel daily.
  • Checks for progress, quality, and productivity.
  • Interprets policies and procedures.
  • Reviews preventative maintenance and routine work order schedules, backlogs, and completed work records using department CMMS.
  • Coordinates in-house and contractor work with hospital operations. Meets with vendors, contractors, and consultants to coordinate project work, resolve technical problems, and determine purchasing needs.
  • Contacts all levels of hospital staff to schedule work and follow-up on maintenance problems.
  • Assists Facilities Manager in the development and administration of the operating and capital budgets.  Develops scope and estimates for project work.
  • Maintains proper housekeeping and materials storage in shop, electrical and mechanical spaces.
  • Ensures safe working conditions are provided and proper safety procedures are used.
  • Assists department with procurement activity including checking accuracy of order completeness, distributing materials, and ensuring adequate shop stock.
  • Assists staff when needed in emergency situations.
  • Reviews and evaluates performance of employees. Counsels and discusses job problems with employees. Approves time off, adjusts work schedules and approves increases in pay.
  • Assists Facilities Manager in various administrative duties.
  • Participates and/or chairs various committees as required.
  • Assists in training of new employees.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to Facilities Manager, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Hours: Day shift 7:30a - 4:00p

Education and Experience Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Four years trade related training.

Five (5) years minimum maintenance experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of maintenance trades, equipment, and materials.
  • Knowledge of the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101).
  • Knowledge of the Health Care Facilities Code (NFPA 99).
  • Knowledge of basic working systems of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in analytical thinking and mechanical problem solving.
  • Ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems in a logical and safe fashion and keep equipment running efficiently with minimum discomfort or inconvenience to CCHS patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Ability to manage emergency situations, react quickly, and effectively.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and specifications.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and utilize a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Ability to properly plan, organize and schedule work assignments.  Ability to demonstrate effective supervisory skills.

Physical demands:

Standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, talking, listening, reading, writing on a regular basis.

Working conditions:

Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, high humidity and heat, electrical shock, steam, and sharp metal surfaces.
