ChristianaCare is looking for a full-time Hospital Billing and SBO Director to oversee ChristianaCare's hospital billing operations including claims management, insurance and self-pay remittance posting, accounts follow-up, denials management, payment variance, (SBO) single billing office and customer service.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the overall management of business services operations to ensure positive cash flow for the system from patient services.

  • Directs and administers the revenue cycle operations, programs, and related activities of the Hospital Billing Director, to ensure compliance with the policies, procedures, philosophy and goals of the System and Federal & State regulatory agencies.  

  • Responsible for timely, accurate and effective billing practices for all hospital revenue and related collection activity including daily operation, direction, and supervision of third-party billing and follow-up, patient outstanding balance statement and follow-up, payment posting, financial assistance, and customer service.

  • Develops, designs, implements and continuously evaluates the quality and performance improvement within the Hospital Revenue Cycle including, but not limited to workflows, policies and procedures, tools, controls and reports that support an efficient, high performing billing cycle.

  • Directs and mentors management team and staff, providing direction and guidance that fosters a positive team environment through training, recognition/evaluation, and revenue cycle specific education which produces optimum work habits. 

  • Assists in the development of annual departmental goals and objectives.  Reviews and ensures departmental performance and productivity meets or exceeds established standards.

  • Monitors and produces best practice standards (KPI's) in a hospital billing environment including days in A/R, cash/net revenue, A/R aging, denials management, credit balances, and other relevant performance indicators.

  • Establishes appropriate departmental priorities and sets the standards for the quality of the work of the department.

  • Hires, evaluates and reviews performance of managers within the hospital billing revenue cycle. Responsible to ensure all staff performance reviews are completed within the system expectations. Responsible to ensure all staff are following reasonable work expectations for productivity and quality, for the timely resolution of accounts receivable.

  • Works with select revenue cycle vendors to optimize performance and patient satisfaction. 

  • Ensures accounts receivable are at accurate net receivables, based on current contracted rates.

  • Assists in the preparation of the capital and operating budgets.  Ensures department operations expenses are maintained within budgeted projections.

  • Fosters positive relationships and ensures effective communication throughout ChristianaCare, with patients, insurance companies, vendors and all external contacts.

  • Promulgates ChristianaCare's core values and behaviors throughout Revenue Cycle and the healthcare system.

  • Assists the Corporate Director, Revenue Cycle as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Finance Management or a related field

  • Master's Degree preferred

  • Five years of experience in a healthcare related field

  • Three to five years in a progressive management position

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted

  • Experience with Soarian Financial/Millennium preferred

  • Experience with a SBO and Customer Service required
