Are you an LPN who has dreamed of becoming an Emergency Department Registered Nurse? Here is your chance to step onto that path! LPNs implement skilled nursing care to Emergency Department patients, while observing for patient response to prescribed treatments and/or nursing interventions-within the LPN practice scope as delineated in the Delaware Nurse Practice Act. Our ED LPNs will be part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective care to our community.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Conducts ongoing patient observations to gather data relevant to the patient needs recording significant conditions and response to treatment, notifying assigned RN of any changes in condition.

Collaborates and assists RN in implementing the plan of care for the patient. Updates the plan as appropriate.

Performs assigned nursing procedures for comfort and well-being of patients demonstrating a concern for patient safety.

Administers medications in a safe and effective manner.

Participates in patient/family education and discharge planning, documenting appropriately.

Updates the teaching plan as appropriate.

Establishes priorities appropriately, based on patient needs.

Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to adult and geriatric patients including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain information and to provide the care needed.

Communicates effectively to patients, families, and the health care team, utilizing both written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Per offer of employment letter, signed commitment upon hire to obtain RN license and then subsequent BSN degree within the defined time frame.
  • Recent acute care experience preferred.
  • BLS

Hours: This position is 3 p.m. - 3 a.m. (15-03) with holiday and weekend requirements per departmental practices.
