PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Video Observer is a position in which the tech is accountable in watching up to 12 patients, who are at high risk for injury/fall. This position requires the ability to remain focused at all times and good communication skills as the tech interacts with care providers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide age appropriate care, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain information identifying a patient's needs, and to provide care as needed.
  • Provides continuous observation of the patient at all times and documents patient behavior according to policy.
  • Responds to patient behaviors and crisis situations.  Initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities.  Notifies RN when appropriate.
  • Accurately documents on CCHS forms and computer as appropriate to scope of job.
  • Responds with promptness, empathy and interest to needs of patients.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, employees, physicians, and visitors, and works constructively with other members of the health care team.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices;  reports to Registered Nurse, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

HOURS/SCHEDULE:

  • Full-time/flex 36 hours weekly
  • Available to work all shifts - day (7a-3:30pm), evening (3p-11:30pm) Every other weekend and rotating holidays

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school graduate or equivalent. 

Completion of one acute care nursing clinical, the Student Nurse Extern program, or CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certified.

BLS certification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of basic nursing care provided for specific patient population of unit.

Knowledge and ability to operate computerized station.

Knowledge of department standards, selected procedures, nursing practice guidelines and procedures.

Ability to recognize changes in patient status and take appropriate action.

Ability to communicate effectively utilizing verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to perform elementary math skills.

Ability to obtain patient vital signs accurately.

Ability to perform specific nursing and point of care testing as outlined in nursing and laboratory procedures.

Ability to document patient care.

Ability to use appropriate safety measures for patients, employees and self.

Ability to perform CPR.

Ability to follow standard precautions.

Ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy.

Ability to respond to patient crisis situations under the direction of the RN, following Clinical Practice

Guidelines.

Ability to handle difficult patient situations effectively.
