The Advanced Heart Failure/Mechanical Circulatory Assist Program at ChristianaCare is currently seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our growing practice. The right candidate will join a team of 5 heart failure physicians and 4 nurse practitioners providing the highest level of care to this complex patient population in both the inpatient and outpatient clinical arenas. ChristianaCare is the 7th busiest heart failure program in the United States by volume of discharges, providing unprecedented opportunities to care for heart failure patients not seen at any other hospital system in the State. As home to the only Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) program in Delaware, you will have the chance to be part of the care team for this unique patient population from initial evaluation through post-op management, making a true difference in improving the lives of those we serve.

This position will be responsible for inpatient and outpatient coverage Monday-Friday at both Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals (rotating schedule). Additionally, the position will require on-call coverage on a rotating call schedule with the other 4 NP's (1 week of call every 5 weeks) for the LVAD program. Generous compensation for on-call coverage is provided, in addition to the base salary. Additional responsibilities include assistance with disease specific certification requirements for both the Heart Failure and LVAD programs.

Clinical Duties

  • Working at highest level of scope of practice, collaborate with heart failure physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team to create effective, innovative treatment plans that provide the best level of care for the patients we serve
  • Staff inpatient consultations, admissions for patients under the Advanced Heart Failure/LVAD service
  • Daily inpatient rounds
  • Outpatient heart failure and LVAD clinic hours
  • LVAD on call coverage (M-F 5pm-7am, Saturday/Sunday 24 hr coverage) 1/5 weeks
  • Assistance with disease specific Joint Commission certifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (nurse practitioner) or Master's Degree in Physician Assistant studies
  • Board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Minimum 2 years experience as an NP or PA, with emphasis in cardiology/HF/LVAD preferred
  • ACLS and BLS required
  • Licensure or license eligible in the state of Delaware
