ChristianaCare is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for our Neurology specialty practice.  This individual will provide initial and follow-up assessments in collaboration with the specialty Neurologists who are onsite.  The focus for this provider will headache, neuromuscular diseases and pediatric neurology.  This is a full-time Monday-Friday position.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Assess health status of neurology patient through complete physical examination and medical history.
  • Design individualized management plan in collaboration with neurology team and other health care professionals for various patho-physiologic states common to the neurology patient.
  • Manage care of the neurology patient within mutually agreed upon protocols, including prescribing appropriate treatment measures and initiation of a continuing treatment regimen for health maintenance.
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to the neurological patient including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information, to identify patient needs and to provide care needed.
  • Ability to independently review patient problems including, but not limited to medication refills, determining the need of follow up care and referring appropriately to the physician according to policy.
  • Ability to document assessment, plan, and patient/family response to intervention.
  • Utilize teaching/learning principles coupled with an expert clinical knowledge to promote and provide education/counseling to the patient and/or family.
  • Act as a liaison for patients, families, and health professionals.
  • Develop competency to perform procedures to reduce headache frequency (i.e. botulism injections, trigger point injections, occipital nerve blocks) - training will be provided.
  • Maintain required credentials and obtain privileges as needed.
  • Utilize, promote, and disseminate research in practice.
  • Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Family or certification as a Physician Assistant
  • Experience in Neurology, Primary Care or Pediatrics preferred
  • Licensure or license eligible for Delaware Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Register Nurse as set forth by the Delaware Board of Nursing or licensure as a Physician Assistant by the Delaware Board of Medicine
  • Certification by the appropriate national organization for area of specialty
  • Prescriptive authority
  • BLS is required
