Performs the basic analysis for data and/or voice network infrastructure projects (implementations and installs), maintains, and monitors data and/or voice network hardware and software, and provides technical support to Information Services personnel and to the corporate community


  • Knowledge of industry tools and equipment ie: Fluke meter, punchdown tools and toning devices

  • CAT6 wire tracing and troubleshooting ability

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

  • Trouble shooting Skills

  • Testing and inspecting cables & installations to ensure functionality

  • Able to read blue prints/AutoCAD

  • Knowledge of Ethernet standards, EIA / TIA standards

  • Previous low voltage wiring experience

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and team members to deliver quality results

  • Performing punch downs and terminations, Terminating voice and data jacks

  • Occasionally participates on Information Services teams to advise and review on the appropriate solutions to the health care/business problems.  Performs the data and/or voice network equipment analysis for the installation and implementation of basic projects.

  • Maintains good communications at all times, provides technical assistance, support, education, training, manuals and standards for Information Services staff

  • Is self-motivated to learn and apply the basics of the data and/or voice network equipment, applications and tools.

  • Performs other related duties as required.


  • High school education and at least 2 years experience in a telecommunications/networking position.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.


  • Knowledge of introductory data and/or voice networking concepts such as Ethernet, cabling, and protocols.

  • Skill in basic data and/or voice network troubleshooting.

  • Ability to learn and understand basic data and/or voice network management applications.

  • Knowledge of introductory PC concepts such as operating systems, protocols, and network interface cards.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, in non-technical terms, with a variety of customers (in Information Services and in other business areas).

  • Ability to write effective support documentation for data and/or voice network devices and systems.

  • Ability to learn and understand the various elements within the patient care and business environments and how the data and/or voice network is utilitized within those areas.

  • Ability to work within a team environment.
