A member of the health care team and Institute of Learning, Leadership & Education department who provides oversight of education for staff and inter-professional teams, support for role transition and professional development, and evidence based quality nursing practice, and who supports Christiana Care Health System, Department of Nursing, Service Line and local department strategic goals.

SPECIAL FOCUS AREA: A Patient & Family Health Education focused Nursing Professional Development Specialist (PFHE NPDS) plays an ever-increasing role within systems and communities. A PFHE NPDS guides and promotes evidence-based healthcare in a patient- and family-centric manner to improve quality outcomes and equity within healthcare organizations and communities. A PFHE NPDS also acts to reduce unnecessary healthcare services, avoidable expenses, and health disparities attributable to limited health literacy.


To guide health literacy strategy and meet our organization's staff development and health literacy goals, the PFHE NPDS must demonstrate

knowledge and experience in 7 established content domains:

2. Public Health
3. Education
4. Language, Culture, and Identity
5. Organizational Systems and Policies
6. Community Engagement
7. Ethics
 


Applicants for this position should be prepared to travel in the community care setting. Work will include developing staff in alignment with the mission, vision, goals, standardized tools and best practices established by the Patient & Family Health Education Team.


 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Promotes clinical inquiry through participation in nursing research, dissemination of research findings, and integration of new evidence into practice.
 
Mentors staff in coordination of quality improvement projects that align with organizational goals. 
 
Facilitates the onboarding of employees to ensure integration to the role on both unit and system-wide levels, focusing on retention and growth.
 
Develops, coordinates, and evaluates individualized orientation plans for employees that guide the employee toward achieving and maintaining job competency.
 
Develops, coordinates, and evaluates competency programs and identifies deficiencies in staff competency. 
 
Identifies and validates developmental/educational priorities through data-driven analysis of learning needs.
 
Utilizes adult learning principles and instructional design standards to develop and implement quality curriculum, focused on achievement of excellent outcomes.
 
Utilizes valid and reliable methods to measure performance outcomes and quality indicators to revise educational content and delivery methods as evidenced by achieved optimal outcomes.
 
Partners with Shared Governance/Decision Making Councils on the unit and system wide level to effect change and generate positive outcomes. 
 
Participates in activities to promote the specialty of Nursing Professional Development.
 
Assists others in professional role development, role transitions, and succession planning through support of mentorship programs.
 
 


REQUIREMENTS:
 

  • BSN required, MS/MSN required or current enrollment in MS/MSN program with completion within three years
  • Specialty Certification Required.
  • Inter-professional experience to include direct involvement in performance improvement, regulatory compliance, and the development and delivery of quality educational programming in a hospital-based system.
