PRIMARY FUNCTION:  This position serves as the content, build, and optimization expert for oncology clinical documentation systems.  This resource also implements changes to the clinical documentation systems as provided by the clinical content experts supporting guideline-based treatment and care plans and medication regimens in the oncology service area.  They will collaborate closely with Cancer Center Leadership, multi-disciplinary teams, Pharmacy, and Information Technology to help lead and advance optimal integration and interoperability across the cancer center clinical systems.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Collaborates with clinical teams and information technology to understand processes and translate them into design requirements and solutions. 

  • Educates, trains, and supports units on existing functionality, new enhancements and upgrades and serves as the oncology clinical information systems liaison for all caregivers including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical assistants, and ancillary staff as needed. 

  • Participates in the implementation of approved clinical application changes, and acts as a change agent in the development and promotion of process revision/redesign to maximize system functionality and efficiency, optimize use of clinical systems, and improve outcomes and patient and clinician satisfaction.

  • Maintain alignment with cancer center interoperability strategy, contribute to solutions (technology or process) for emerging issues; identify integration points across efforts.       

  • Applies clinical knowledge, systems and analysis skills, knowledge of current and future computer applications, and project planning and implementation skills to achieve defined objectives of sustained technology solutions and processes within the oncology space.  (Engages in projects at implementation planning, execution, and evaluation phases).

  • Creates and maintains templates in Oncology clinical information systems for physician lab orders, procedure orders, referral orders, physician letters, medical necessity letters and nursing triage forms including interoperability between inpatient and outpatient care ensuring comprehensive chemo dose documentation for continuity of care

  • Implements chart audits as needed for staff, leadership, and accreditation visitors

  • Assists with generating a wide range of reports thru Oncology clinical information systems providing necessary data upon request and as needed

  • Conducts rounds and communicates regularly with and provides assistance to end-users. Builds relationships by demonstrating a clear and predictable service.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS in nursing or other applicable degree; Master's degree in clinical discipline such as nursing, information technology or another applicable discipline preferred

  • Five (5) years of experience in health care information systems with emphasis on clinical analysis and process improvement.  Cerner application experience preferred.
