Primary function:

As the Specialty Pharmacy Pharmacist-In-Charge, you will be the pharmacist of record with the Delaware State Board of Pharmacy for assigned location and assist the Director, Ambulatory & Specialty Pharmacy Services with supervision of the personnel.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in daily prescription dispensing workflow of assigned pharmacy and oversee the activities of pharmacists and technicians to assure expected level of service and safety in compliance with State and Federal laws regulating pharmacy, as well as covenants of third-party pharmacy payers (e.g., Delaware Medicaid, Medicare Part D, etc.), and specialty pharmacy accreditation standards
  • Ensure a favorable patient experience and acts as the primary contact for patient experience issues in assigned pharmacy
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders to foster effective communication, problem solving, and planning
  • Perform duties of the Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician in assigned area when necessary.
  • Apply Just Culture principles for investigating and documenting follow-up to events occurring in the assigned pharmacy
  • Coordinate staffing schedule and manage timecards for assigned area and collaborate with other outpatient pharmacies to assure appropriate staffing levels within each pharmacy
  • Serve as an active member of the Specialty Pharmacy Quality Management Committee
  • Lead assigned pharmacy activities related to Pharmacy Services initiatives and projects by developing strategies to meet defined metrics and benchmarks
  • Develop and revise policies and procedures to ensure adherence with accreditation standards (ACHC and URAC) and Board of Pharmacy, DEA, state and federal rules and regulations
  • Participate in or lead specialty pharmacy performance improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with pharmacy leadership to obtain and evaluate performance metrics and other data to meet accreditation standards and payer requirements
  • Identify and report events and provide follow-up assessment when assigned
  • Assure handling and storage of medications in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and hospital policies
  • Educate staff on policies and procedures, including time and attendance, proper PPE, and other human resources procedures
  • Participate in the selection and hiring of pharmacy caregivers and coordinate their orientation and training
  • Responsible for the development, evaluation, coaching, and progressive discipline of caregivers within assigned pharmacy
  • Precept pharmacy residents and students, as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • B.S. in Pharmacy required, PharmD degree preferred
  • Current licensure (or eligible to reciprocate) in the State of Delaware and the State of Maryland
  • Certified Pharmacist Immunizer (DE) with valid CPR certification required
  • At least one year specialty pharmacy experience required
  • Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) certification preferred
  • At least three years of outpatient or specialty pharmacy management experience preferred
