ChristianaCare is looking for a full-time Plant Operations Supervisor in Elkton, Maryland to direct the functional operations and systems of the Plant Operations Department. Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, & Joint Commission standards/guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Selects, trains, organizes, directs, informs, evaluates, and when necessary, disciplines staff.
  • Assists with training staff in use of fire extinguishers, hazardous materials, and evacuation procedures.
  • Assists with development and implementation of disaster plan.
  • Establishes and manages a plant repair, modernization, and preventative maintenance program.
  • Oversees performance and maintains records of all preventative & corrective maintenance work.
  • Plans, develops, and administers a multi-year capital budget for projects and equipment and annual operating budgets (operating and budget years.)
  • Schedules outside contractors' work and conducts business with consultants, sales representatives, and engineering personnel regarding projects and general operation of the power plant.
  • Coordinates, and monitors all service contracts with outside plant operations vendors.
  • Listens and advises personnel on equipment, job growth, and ideas on plant improvements.
  • Functions as a mechanic and operator as needed.
  • Checks progress and quality of work completed by staff.
  • Ensures safe working conditions are provided and proper safety procedures are followed.
  • Orders selected stock items to maintain maximum efficiency. Manages procurement of equipment, systems, and utilization of chemicals.
  • Meets with vendors, contractors, and consultants to coordinate project work, resolve technical problems, and determine purchasing needs.
  • Confers with representatives of the federal, state, or local governments on matters of plant safety, environment, and operating statistics.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Hours: Day shift 7:30a - 4:00p - off hours as needed

Education and Experience Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Six (6) to Ten (10) years' experience in building trades or relevant maintenance activities.

Plant Operations and Supervisory experience preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Special Requirements:

MD 1st Grade Stationary Engineering License required.

EPA 608 CFC Certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:

  • Knowledge of maintenance trades, equipment, and materials.
  • Knowledge of the Health Care Facilities Code (NFPA 99).
  • Knowledge of basic working systems of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in analytical thinking and mechanical problem solving.
  • Ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems in a logical and safe fashion and keep equipment running efficiently with minimum discomfort or inconvenience to CCHS patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and specifications.

Physical demands:

Standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, talking, listening, reading, writing on a regular basis.

Working conditions:

Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, high humidity and heat, electrical shock, steam, and sharp metal surfaces.
