ChristianaCare is looking for a full-time Plumber in Newark, Delaware to install, maintain, and repair, primary and sub-system plumbing systems, including medical gas, domestic hot and cold water, and waste systems.

Hours: Alternating week shifts 7:30am -4:00pm / 6:00am- 2:30pm

On-Call alternating weeks/weekends/holidays

Duties and Responsibilities:

Installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing sub-systems and equipment.

Repairs and installs primary plumbing systems and medical gas piping.

Performs preventative maintenance on facility systems and equipment.

Checks water pressure and temperature.

Responds, coordinates and repairs water events with contractors and staffing.

Coordinates damages of building envelope systems with contractors ensuring watertight systems.

Documents all repairs within Computerized Maintenance Management System.

Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Four years Trade school and Journeyman certificate.
  • Four years' experience in the plumbing field.

Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements:

Knowledge of plumbing maintenance, techniques, and equipment.

Knowledge of NFPA 99 medical gas systems section.

Knowledge of MCD policies and procedures.

Skill in use of equipment, instruments, and tools (i.e. pipe cutters, threaders, levels, skill saws, electric drills.)

Skill in oral and written communication.

Troubleshoot plumbing problems and take corrective action.

Ability to read and work from blueprints and specifications.

Special requirements:

  • Journeyman Plumber certification.
  • Acquire ASSE 6010 Medical Gas Installer Certification within one year of hire.
  • Acquire ASSE 5000 series Cross-connection Control Certifications with six months of hire.

Demands:

Bending, lifting, reaching, climbing ladders and scaffolding. Working overhead and in cramped spaces.

Working conditions:

Exposure to oils, grease, hot surfaces, chemical fumes, soot, dust, dirt, extreme heat, cold and noise.

Exposure to burns, scalds, eye, ear hazards and falls. Exposure to cramped and confined areas and danger of infection. Exposure to open sewers.
