The primary job function is to provide direct clinical services to medical patients and family members, serve on multidisciplinary teams to provide care optimization by addressing the social and behavioral determinants of health that impact treatment adherence and healthcare inequity, engage in the provision of supervision, program development, and training activities/faculty development in accordance with training  goals, and complete relevant supervision and training requirement according to Delaware Psychology Licensure. The fellowship is aligned with Christiana Care strategy and designed to prepare psychologists for a career in integrated behavioral medicine in accordance with Optimal Health, Exceptional Experience, Caregiver Experience, and Organizational Vitality.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    

Provide direct ambulatory clinical services to perinatal patients and family members while taking individual, cultural, and social determinants of health factors into consideration. Direct clinical services may include the following:

  • Phone-based consultation and triage for newly referred patients Psycho-diagnostic evaluation
  • Individual psychotherapy and couple/family consultation Health behavior assessment and intervention services
  • Referral to internal and external behavioral health specialists or care providers as needed  
  • Crisis management as needed Maintain patient records

Provide acute care clinical services to hospital admitted OB/GYN patients and family members. The clinical services may include the following:

  • Provision or supervision of direct patient consultation and brief intervention.
  • Provider consultation regarding the patient's care needs and the social and behavioral determinants of health
  • Maintain patient records

Serve on Multidisciplinary Teams to

  • Participate in provider consultations/case review regarding the patient's care needs and the social and behavioral determinants of health Contribute in relevant multidisciplinary meetings
  • Engage in service evaluation and debrief processes, as appropriate

Provide and/or supervise integrated behavioral health care in the Women's Health Ambulatory OB/GYN offices. Integrated care services may include:

  • Provide direct patient consultation and brief intervention Provider consultation and support to address social determinants of health and impact on treatment adherence Conduct brief individual psychotherapy and facilitate referrals to community/alternate services as appropriate

Training, Education, and Supervision

Engage in training and supervision activities with psychology externs, interns, and other healthcare trainees under the supervision of the licensed supervising psychologist Develop training initiatives to provide relevant educational activities across the healthcare system Receive weekly supervision in accordance with requirements for obtaining Delaware Psychology Licensure Participate in relevant training and education opportunities with the behavioral health training program and the healthcare organization

Program Development

Engage in program development & evaluation and quality improvement projects Implement/advance program development/evaluation and/or quality improvement project over the course of the fellowship Participate in research activities as available

The Postdoctoral Fellow performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

Performs work according to Behavioral Health policies and procedures as well as psychology ethics and best practices. Performs other related duties as required

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The postdoctoral fellow will receive a minimum of four hours of supervision per week provided by the supervising licensed psychologist at CWEW and/or a designated licensed psychologist if needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Ph.D./Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited psychology program. If the degree is not yet conferred, the applicant must have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree by the start of the fellowship.
  • Completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship.
  • Specialty training, clinical experience, and/or expressed interest in Women's Health and Perinatal Mental Health and behavioral medicine.
  • Interest in behavioral medicine program development & evaluation, community outreach, and/or clinical supervision is strongly desired.
  • Interest in addressing health inequities through social, psychological, behavioral, and ecological factors strongly desired.
