Are you a RN that is looking for a challenging role and to be part of a great team?  ChristianaCare is looking for a full-time Registered Nurse for Hematology and Oncology Triage.

This position is located at the Helen F. Graham Center in Newark, DE.  The selected candidate will triage calls Monday through Friday from 8:00AM-4:30PM.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Provides nursing care appropriate to adult oncology patients.
  • Evaluate available information and obtain additional data from caller as needed
  • Determine severity of problem and immediate needs of patient
  • Confer with physician regarding need for: Immediate assessment/office visit, Prescription for medications, Necessary follow up
  • Determine need for referral to EMS (911), local emergency department, or another physician. 
  • Performs and documents assessment of patients for visit following established criteria and office specific standards.
  • Initiates and individualizes plan of care for patients following established office specific standards.
  • Evaluates plan of care including patient response and outcome following established office specific standards.
  • Manages patient medication administration safely and effectively.
  • Tracks and follows up testing results using service specific standards.
  • Maintains communication between patients and physicians between visits.
  • Delegates duties and tasks to other staff after assessment of capability and scope of responsibilities.
  • Provides nursing intervention in patient crises situations following unit specific standards.
  • Maintains required credentials of BCLS and mandatory inservice education programs.
  • Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, co-workers, management, physicians, and ancillary department staff.
  • Uses principles of customer service with all contacts.
  • Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to adult and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and to provide the care needed.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.  Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSN required; ADN who commits to obtaining BSN with 3 years of start date may be considered.
  • oncology nursing experience preferred.
  • 12 months professional nursing experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current RN licensure in the State of Delaware.
  • BCLS certification.
  • OCN preferred
