PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Respiratory Supervisor will assist the Clinical Manager in the overall administrative direction for the clinical practice of Respiratory Care and the delivery of high quality and cost effective respiratory care to all patients utilizing the services of the Respiratory Care Department. The Respiratory Supervisors shares 24-hour responsibility and accountability for all aspects of daily operational activity with the Clinical Managers. The Respiratory Supervisor will work a percentage of time in performing Respiratory Therapy staff duties.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, directly supervises all staff
  • Assesses competency of staff, oversees daily staffing and scheduling needs of the department, evaluates staff performance, counsels staff members when performance issues are identified.
  • Participates in hiring, promotion, salary adjustment, and termination decisions.
  • Functions as a highly visible role model, demonstrating quality expertise and professional behavior, which supports professional development of the staff and the strategic goals of CCHS. 
  • Identifies and develops strategies to improve knowledge base and professionalism of staff.
  • Directs, mentors, and supports Respiratory Department staff members.
  • Identifies potential future leaders and engages in succession planning.
  • Develops, implements and monitors performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationship among other CCHS departments, patient care areas and other practices.
  • Participates in preparation of annual capital and operating budget.  Supports organizing and prioritizing respiratory needs.
  • Assists in the analysis of monthly expenditures and develops plans to offset variances.
  • Identifies new program and service opportunities for the department.
  • Acts as a liaison with other hospital departments to enhance program development and improve clinical excellence.
  • Develops and maintains methods to ensure patient, employee and physician satisfaction.
  • Functions as a staff Respiratory Therapist as needed.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.  Reports to the appropriate personnel, in a timely fashion, any unsafe activities, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of a CoArc approved School of Respiratory Therapy
  • Minimum of five years critical care experience required
  • Bachelor Degree required
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Current AARC Member
  • Respiratory Care licensure in the State of Delaware required
