PRIMARY FUNCTION:

This position provides data architecture and visualization support which is critical to drive success in population health analytics, including reporting/dashboard needs for Center for Virtual Health operations, virtual health programs, and virtual health delivery contracts. The Sr BI Developer will develop and implement solutions based upon customer design specifications while conforming to standards and guidelines.  Mentor other team members in the use of the BI development tools and provide guidance on operational support when needed.  

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with team members to either design, develop the reports, dashboards or other user interface solutions.

  • Create BI user interface solutions using a BI tool and conforming to BI development standards and guidelines while focusing on delivering an effective user experience based on user roles.

  • Performs all levels of testing (unit, integration, regression and support of user testing) to ensure BI code meets technical and business requirements.

  • Ensure the creation of high quality and on time deliverables.

  • Ensures standards for user access security are followed.

  • Ensure documentation and provide support and technical guidance to resolve support issues as needed. 

  • Ensure that standards for change management and production control are understood and followed.

  • Maintain effective user and IT relationships in order to provide a climate receptive to systems improvement and to enhance understanding of the user's business concerns.  Participate on user project teams assisting them to leverage the enterprise data warehouse and data resources.

  • Looks for areas of improvement in processes and procedures and offers recommendations. 

  • Provide guidance and direction of available data for research projects.  Understand and adhere to all research data management procedures.

  • Maintain expertise in data warehouse tools and technologies and coach others on the team.  Provide guidance and direction to less experienced team members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field. 

  • 8+ years of experience in Information Technology with 5+ years in Business Intelligence. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

  • Extensive experience with Data Warehouse ETL development tools.

  • Experience with ETL performance optimization techniques. 

  • Extensive experience with BI user reporting and analysis tools and the overall user experience. 

  • Experience working in a Data Warehouse agile development environment.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated leadership ability.

  • Strong judgement, excellent analytical ability and consulting skills.

  • Expert in the use of BI user reporting and analysis tools, including Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis Services.

  • Ability to assist and coach other BI Developers. 

  • Working knowledge in source system analysis and data quality analysis.

  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, terminology and architecture.

  • Working knowledge of an agile environment including creating of automated build, testing, integration and data refresh processes.

  • Knowledge and experience with Information processing principles and practices including testing and source control.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and consulting skills.

  • Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

  • Good technical support documentation skills.

  • Ability to work with individuals as well as have a commitment to organizational goals.

  • Ability to acquire new skills quickly and thrive in a collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to cope with conflicting points of view.

  • Ability to maintain confidential information and materials.

  • Ability to exercise judgement, tact, and diplomacy.
