We are searching for an experienced attorney to serve as Senior Counsel and have responsibility for advising, protecting, and representing Christiana Care Health System, Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively, "ChristianaCare") regarding employment law and related employee relations matters. This position works with ChristianaCare Human Resources and enterprise leadership to develop proactive strategies and solutions to support a high functioning, engaged, and diverse workforce. This position also works closely with other members of the Legal/Risk Management Department to support ChristianaCare's overarching legal needs and further ChristianaCare's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support to ChristianaCare in all areas of employment law, with specialized understanding of employment considerations within a health care enterprise.

  • Familiarity with state and federal statutes and regulations including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

  • Work closely with Human Resources and management to support and conduct internal investigations.

  • Prepare responses to charges filed the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Delaware Department of Labor, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, Maryland Commission for Civil Rights and other administrative agencies.

  • Prepare and review internal policies, procedures, and other operating documents.

  • Provide internal education and training to Human Resources and leadership on applicable law and best practices.

  • Support all other functions of the Legal/Risk Management Department as needed, including providing legal support on clinical and patient care issues, regulatory matters, and the preparation and negotiation of transaction documents.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Licensed to practice law in Delaware or eligible for Certificate of Limited Practice for In-House Counsel

  • A minimum of 8 years of legal experience, preferably advising a hospital or health care system.

  • Experience with employment law and regulations.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
