PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Senior Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating effective training activities. This position will work with other Instructional Designers as well as faculty / educators and subject matter experts to analyze training needs and develop learning content using different modalities / technologies. It will also support and implement evaluation measurement strategy to measure the value and impact of learning programs.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in and supports the goals and work of the Institute for Learning, Leadership and Development, working with Information Technology project managers, teams, and leadership to support the EMR and other technology systems for all levels of users (providers, managers, clinical staff, and office staff).
  • Apply adult learning theories and instructional design methodology to design and develop best-practice clinical system content for instructor-led and online educational programs.
  • Conducts, with the assistance of the Sr. Education Specialist, needs analysis to identify organizational outcomes, stakeholder expectations, critical behaviors, and educational objectives for identified projects, system enhancements, or end user optimization.
  • Responsible for completing, with the assistance of the Sr. Education Specialist, Kirkpatrick Business Partnership process for key organizational initiatives.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains all required documents and materials for technically complex training projects.  These include assessments, storyboards, facilitator guides, training support materials, and SharePoint directories and other communication sites as applicable. 
  • Develops SCORM compliant eLearning courses using a variety of applications and tools such as video/audio production tools, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Learning Management System (LMS), Adobe Photoshop, etc.
  • Consults with Manager IT Education and / or Team Leader, on intake of new work requests as well as project scoping and timeline for these initiatives.  Serves as content development lead at project level and supports the execution of project activities and ongoing relationships with internal customers.
  • Maintains and updates appropriate ServiceNow status and work notes for assigned projects.
  • Supports evaluation measurement strategy to measure the value and impact of learning programs.  Can serve as course owner and evaluates available evaluation program reports at the course level to determine performance improvement opportunities.  Reviews self-paced web-based evaluation reports at the class level to determine their individual performance improvement opportunities.
  • Conducts pilot tests of the courseware and revises the courseware based upon data from pilot tests and other formative evaluations.
  • Researches and evaluates emerging technologies to meet instructional goals as well as provide insight for future trends and functionality in eLearning.
  • Develops templates that will allow efficient authoring of job aids and other support materials by educators within the iLEAD IT Clinical Applications team.
  • Project manages the design, development, implementation, testing and evaluation of different education projects.
  • Participates in project lessons learned activities and uses findings to collaborate with Sr. Education Specialists to make enhancements to ongoing and future project efforts that involve training solutions.
  • Assists Manager IT Education and IT Education Team Leader with the recruitment and selection of new team members for open positions.
  • Serves as mentor to new team members responsible for instructional design. 
  • Participates in professional activities to keep current in training methodology and technology developments and work to incorporate best practices into department processes as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in education or instructional design required.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of instructional design and development experience in a project-oriented environment.
  • Experience developing educational programs that incorporate the following: Instructional Design, Learning Theory, Instructional Strategies, Evaluation Methodology, and Design of Interactive Courseware Products (Web or Computer-Based Training).
  • Experience in designing and developing SCORM 1.2/2004 and AICC compliant multimedia eLearning content.  aXPI experience is desirable.
  • SharePoint Communication Site experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team. The ability to improvise, inspire, be creative, lead and listen is highly desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of instructional technologies and authoring tools such as Articulate Presenter, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, LMS, screen capture tools, video/audio production tools, Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, HTML5, javascript/JQuery, CSS, etc.
  • Knowledge of Instructional design models, adult learning theories, E-Learning Strategies, and computer-based training development skills.
  • Ability to leverage technology to accomplish instructional objectives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Video/audio production skills for developing cross-platform multimedia content.
  • Excellent graphic design skill is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Soarian Financials and Cerner clinical applications is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse group at various levels of the organization.
