The mission of the Internal Audit (IA) department is to enhance organizational value, provide insight to improve operations, and safeguard organizational assets. IA does this by providing risk-based assurance and advisory services. ChristianaCare is searching for a Senior Operational Auditor to be responsible for completing internal audit activities consistent with the standards established by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). Such work includes, but is not limited to, conducting various operational audits, advisory engagements and investigations including supply chain and new initiatives.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

Conducts both independent and joint audits and other assignments based on the Audit Plan and/or need utilizing agile audit methodology.

Works with Corporate Director, Internal Audit to develop audit programs and determine scope, objectives, approach and timing of individual audits and special projects.

Finds opportunities for improvement and develops formal Management Action Plan (MAP) recommendations that are valuable and cost-effective.

Investigates control/operational weaknesses when identified.

Drafts formal Point of View (written reports) stating the audit conclusions in a clear, concise manner.

Prepares clear, well-organized and concise work papers.

Follows up with engagement partners to ensure that all Management Action Plan (MAP) items have been implemented timely with vital documentation.

Assists the Corporate Director in compiling the Enterprise Risk Assessment for the organization.

Utilizes audit procedures and other analytical tools to meet objectives determined for completion of special projects.

Seeks to understand and utilize new technologies including Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to external departments and functions for audits and special projects.

Serves on various workgroups and committees as directed by the Corporate Director, Internal Audit.

Maintains open and frequent communication with Corporate Director, fellow Internal Audit team members and engagement partners.

Remains abreast of current developments in risk within the healthcare industry.

Strives to improve the operations of the Internal Audit Department.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and experience requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or other Business-related discipline is required.
  • An MBA or a master's degree in Hospital Administration is a plus.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in auditing with a focus on identifying, analyzing and documenting audit findings for root cause and recommending opportunities for improvement is desired. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with risk in the healthcare industry is a plus.
