This position will provide gender - affirming behavioral health assessment and therapy services to transgender and gender diverse patients and their families

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Conduct all modes of therapy for adult transgender/gender diverse individuals (individual, family, group, multi-family groups.  Option to treat children and adolescents patients.
  • Triage gender wellness telephone calls and emails for services: Assess patient needs: referrals for gender - affirming services inside and outside ChristianaCare, referrals to community resources, provide psychoeducation as needed to callers
  • Track referrals of patients requesting services.
  • Complete gender - affirming hormone evaluations when requested by providers within the system (i.e. endocrinology)
  • Assist patients in resourcing gender - affirming surgical providers based on need and insurance coverage.
  • Complete gender - affirming surgical support letters for surgeons and insurance companies.  Interface with surgeons and caregivers as needed for patients seeking gender related surgeries.
  • Complete I.D. documentation for patients (birth certificate, passport, state I.D, social security) when requested
  • Ongoing coordination of care with medical providers and psychiatric providers inside and outside the ChristianaCare system
  • Provide education to the system on cultural competence when working with gender diverse individuals when requested
  • Attend gender diversity related committees and working groups within the system
  • Provide consultation for ChristianaCare providers when asked with or without patient
  • Reports and updates pertinent patient information to physician and treatment team at team meetings.
  • Identifies milieu deficits and assists in implementing appropriate measures to meet needs.
  • Develops coordinated treatment plan in collaboration with other members of the treatment team.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices;  reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Constant contact with the therapeutic milieu and treatment team to facilitate a positive, caring, and supportive atmosphere for positive change in all patients.

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

May supervise up to 1 social work intern

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Master of Social Work degree required

DE LCSW license or ability to receive reciprocity for clinical license from another state

Minimum 2 years working as an outpatient therapist

Preference given to those who have experience working with gender diverse individuals or have a personal connection to the gender diverse community
