Primary Function:

ChristianaCare is looking for a part-time Service Assistant II to prepare, assemble, and serve accurate patient and cafeteria meals in a sanitary workplace.

This position has varied shifts between the business hours of 5:30am-7:30pm including weekends and holidays. Schedule will most often be 11:00am-7:30pm or 3:45pm-7:30pm.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates knowledge of production techniques; reads and prepares foods according to par levels and production tally's, demonstrates compliance to recipes, portion control, requisition and inventory system, appropriately documents leftovers,

Demonstrates knowledge of operation and care of food service equipment including knives, food slicers, vegetable cutters, grills, kettles, and steam tables.

Demonstrates ability to assemble patient meals with a high degree of accuracy and speed in accordance with the menu, utilizing appropriate serving utensils and portion scales. Items are placed in the correct position on the meal tray. Able to rotate through all positions on the tray line.

Understands and demonstrates the ability to assemble trays for modified diets. Able to differentiate between regular, modified food, and liquids. Understands therapeutic requirements of diets.

Demonstrates appropriate infection prevention procedures; maintains proper food holding, serving and storage temperatures, prevents cross contamination, dates and labels food products, rotates stock, utilizes appropriate cutting boards, wears gloves and protective clothing as required.

Demonstrates knowledge of proper food receiving techniques; foods received at proper temperatures, foods stored at proper temperatures, First In, First Out method of storage and utilization followed. Demonstrates ability to identify quality problems and expiration dates.

Demonstrates a patient/customer "comes first" attitude. Greets patients, visitors, customers, and co-workers with a smile and pleasant manner. Demonstrates quality customer service. Practices service recovery.

Demonstrates understanding and executes CCHS Core Values (Excellence and Love) and Behaviors in each task. Interacts with patients, families, co-workers, management, physicians, and other department staff in a compassionate manner, demonstrating empathy, sensitivity, patience, and mutual respect.

Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

Performs other related duties as directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school graduate or equivalent

Two years food service experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of portion control techniques.

Knowledge of common weights and measures related to food preparation and purchasing.

Ability to read menu selections, production sheets, and recipes.

Ability to distinguish color perception in response to identification of color coded labels and quality control of food items.

Ability to perform math calculations

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to dangerous pieces of equipment. Subject to extreme temperature changes, hot wells, and refrigerator and freezer temperatures. Exposure to chemicals and cleaning supplies.
