PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To supervise and direct the activity and personnel of specific departments of Textile Services when normal supervisor is absent. Departments include Production, Linen Distribution, and Pack Room.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides interim supervision for department by supervising, coordinating, and directing the personnel and activities of Textile Services.

Assists in scheduling and assigning personnel to work areas, monitors work loads to maintain even work flow, and rotate personnel as needed for efficient production.

Makes recommendations regarding employee discipline, and resolves problems.

Completes quality control measures for department quality assurance plan.

Participates in training of new employees in use of equipment and operational supplies.

Assists staff at work stations and performs textile operations as needed.

Assists and assumes other Textile supervisors' responsibilities as needed.

Arranges for distribution and storage of finished laundry including adequate clean linen supplies for hospital departments.

Monitors equipment to maintain proper functioning and operation, reports any equipment malfunctions  and initiates maintenance and repair requests.

Maintains established departmental standards, policies, and procedures.

Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.

Performs other duties as required.

SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Daily contact with departmental personnel; occasional contact with other hospital departments in performance of Textile Services functions.

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

Service Assistant II's, Truck Drivers, Textile Mechanics in absence of normal supervisor.

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Supervisors and Director of Textile Services

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High School education or equivalent.

Two Years Textile Services experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of laundry equipment and supplies.

Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques.

Ability to plan, schedule, and organize the work of staff and to evaluate their performance.

Ability to accomplish established/assigned departmental goals and objectives.

Ability to assess and evaluate problems and recommend solutions.

Ability to communicate with customers and maintain constructive working relationships.

Skill in written and oral communications.

Ability to train staff in use of equipment and supplies.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

None

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Prolonged standing and walking.   Requires lifting, pushing and pulling of heavy carts and handling large amounts of linen.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to hazardous chemicals, chemical odors, and loud noises. Possible exposure to sharp instruments and infectious diseases.
