Provide operational, technical, and coding support for the Physician Billing Department as well as the individual physician groups.


  • Reviews operative reports and assigns appropriate coding.

  • Communicates with practices and providers to ensure accuracy in the coding and documentation of services.

  • Reviews surgical edits to ensure clean claim processing.

  • Works with the A/R team to review coding when claims are denied.

  • Trains new employees in coding and billing responsibilities.

  • Monitors accuracy of the surgical report.

  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.


  • High school graduate or equivalent. 

  • Associate's degree preferred. 

  • Five years experience in physician coding/billing.  AAPC Certification (CPC) required. 

  • Surgical coding experienced required. 

  • Strong knowledge of SMS/Soarian preferred.  Multi-specialty background preferred.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.


  • Knowledge of physician billing and reimbursement policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes as it relates to physician billing.

  • Knowledge of modifier usage.

  • Knowledge of physician office practices.

  • Ability to enter, update, and retrieve information using a personal computer.

  • Skill in written and oral communication.
