As the Vice President of Pathology and Laboratory Services, you will collaborate to develop and deliver the system-level strategy for pathology and laboratory services; lead the pathology and laboratory operations of assigned campuses; and evaluate performance to assure patient safety, compliance and alignment with organizational expectations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop new programs, services and opportunities that align with and support the annual operating plan and strategic vision of the system
  • Plan for the future technical and organizational development of the department
  • Responsible for the purchase of instruments, equipment and/or pharmaceuticals and negotiating individual contracts, when necessary, to supplement group purchasing contracts.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight for comprehensive laboratory services throughout the health care system
  • Provide guidance to the leadership responsible for laboratory services on other campuses to ensure care standardization where feasible
  • Assure the delivery of cost-effective, equitable, and high quality services
  • Develop revenue/expense, capital equipment, renovation, and operating budgets for assigned locations; monitors compliance with budget on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that productivity measures accurately reflect the departmental workload. Ensure adequate and appropriate staffing throughout the department. Ensure that sections receive appropriate in-service and orientation training.
  • Ensure services and processes are integrated and optimally coordinated, to streamline operations and cost and create state-of-the art function in a manner that supports the System vision, mission and objectives
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams; represent Clinical Essential Services on assigned teams
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies/procedures as well as regulatory agencies, including but not limited to, Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and applicable State rules and regulations.
  • Promote a professional practice environment that fosters teamwork and collaboration among team members.
  • Ensure staff growth and development through mentoring programs and identifying and addressing gaps in competencies
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure best practice standards and promotes high quality care with excellent outcomes.

Education and Experience requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field required
  • Master's degree in business administration, healthcare administration or related field required
  • Certification preferred: MT (ASCP), MC/MB (ASCP), or CLS (ASCP)
  • At least 10 years of experience effectively working in a regulated laboratory environment in the healthcare industry (FDA or CLIA)
  • At least 7 years of clinical laboratory management experience within a high-volume, high-complexity, CAP and CLIA regulated clinical laboratory environment
  • Experience as a director or senior leader at a large multi-hospital organization preferred
