Vice President of Patient Care Services

ChristianaCare seeks a transformational leader for the position of Vice President of Patient Care Services with a focus on leading our Cardiovascular Procedural areas. This role provides nursing and administrative leadership for the Newark Campus, reporting to the Chief Nurse Officer. The Vice President of Patient Care Services facilitates mutual support for the achievement of the organization's goals. The selected candidate will develop, define, plan and manage the range of services comprising the Newark Campus. Through effective leadership, this person provides service excellence in patient care delivery to the population served, provides professional development of nurse leaders, and fiscal management. Areas of oversight include procedural areas such as our Cardiac Cath Lab, Vascular Interventional Radiology and our Electrophysiology Lab, in addition to Prep & Hold and Cardiovascular units at the Newark Campus. Ensures the delivery of safe, high quality, patient centric care while continually evaluating care delivery against ChristianaCare's strategic aims namely Optimal Health, Exceptional Experience, and Organizational Vitality.

Participates in the development, on-going review and modification of campus and system-wide patient care programs and policies and procedures.

Collaborates with physicians and other clinical leaders in the strategic decision-making structures and processes to ensure the nursing perspective is incorporated in decision making.

Develops the nursing budget in collaboration with nursing management team members as well as campus operations. Ensures the clinical departments operate within productivity and budget standards and system clinical expectations.

Actively engages in continuous quality improvement initiatives that demonstrate documented outcomes in support of organization and campus goals. Ensures the active participation of campus leaders and direct care staff in quality, safety, and other improvement initiatives.

Participates in developing and implementing mechanisms for collaboration between nursing staff, providers, as well as ancillary support staff.

Develops, implement and evaluate strategies and programs with other nursing leaders and internal/external partners to enhance the recruitment, retention, professional development and continuing education of the nursing staff.


Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Completed BSN required.  Master's degree required; MSN preferred.

Professional nursing certification preferred, certification in advanced executive nursing leadership required.

A minimum of 5 years progressive management experience required.

Specific clinical expertise in the heart & vascular arena, running large, complex cath labs, vascular labs and in-patient units.

Experience working in highly matrixed healthcare environments.

Eligible for a State of Delaware RN License.
